Job Description Overview:

The Senior Integration Technician will be responsible for integrating, commissioning, and troubleshooting of TransPower’s medium duty and heavy-duty electric / hybrid vehicles, energy storage and associated charging equipment.  The position will support vehicle commissioning, integration, diagnosing operational problems and repairing equipment for vehicles and equipment in house, as well as in the field. Local daily travel may be required up to 10% of the time. Occasionally there will be overnight travel throughout North America as the company grows. Physical demands include, but are not limited to, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking some heavy lifting, and maneuvering over, under and around vehicles and equipment, to service, maintain and repair.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Integrate, commission, repair, maintain, troubleshoot and service medium and heavy-duty electric/hybrid vehicles, systems and equipment
  • Maintain good communication with internal/external staff such as engineering, program managers, drivers, co-workers, supervisors, and service technicians
  • Maintain proper paperwork and documentation for installations including written procedures and instructions
  • Complete assigned work accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Update vehicles in house and in the field with new service software
  • Train entry level technicians on operation, repair, and maintenance of all TransPower product lines

Required Qualifications:

  • Journeyman level experience in the automotive market, preferably with heavy duty vehicles
  • Strong experience with electrical wiring, circuit testing, troubleshooting and general mechanical/electrical systems
  • Ability to operate independently with limited supervision
  • Strong experience with OEM diagnostic tools
  • Familiar with Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work without an office and out of a vehicle at different sites
  • A self-starter with strong personal initiative and follows through to respond promptly to company and customer needs and requests
  • Reliable personal vehicle (TransPower does offer travel reimbursement)

Required Education/Certifications:

  • Trade school or higher in related field
  • 5+ years related work experience

Required Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be able to read schematics and diagrams
  • Ability to interact professionally at all times with internal and external customers
  • Good problem resolution and analytical skills related to troubleshooting technical issues, communicating and documenting solutions to non-technical parties
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel and Outlook
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications/Education:

  • Technical Degree
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Good driving record and demonstrated ability to safely operate company and customer vehicles
  • General knowledge of truck and bus hybrid or electric drive systems
  • High voltage, natural gas, and hydrogen systems training or certification
  • Experience in repairing high voltage components such as inverters, converters, high voltage contractors, high voltage cables, permanent magnet traction motors
  • Able to maintain good communication with internal/external staff such as engineering, fleet maintenance managers, drivers, co-workers, supervisors, and fleet mechanics
  • Able to maintain proper paperwork and documentation for repair and installations including written procedures and instructions

This job will support the Field Service Technicians and vehicles. The Field Service Engineer will work on the production floor, in an office, and will require significant travel to support vehicles deployed at customer locations. The job will include use of PC based diagnostic tools, wiring schematics and hands on approach to diagnose and fix faults in the field. Other tasks will be to support root cause analysis for the faults, provide calibration support and conduct necessary tests and validation in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and 2-5 years of experience
  • Experience in Model-Based Controls Development – Controls Rapid Prototyping and Development
  • Troubleshooting experience with tools such as oscilloscopes, multi meters, Vector CANalyzer, and general problem-solving skills
  • A strong understanding of vehicle sensors and associated I/O interface Experience with CAN connected devices and knowledge of CAN communication protocol (J1939) including DM1 and freeze frame.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and work levels
  • Data analytical skills in programs such as Excel and Matlab
  • Component specification, testing, calibration, and operational validation as it applies to advanced vehicles and power solutions
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
  • Ability to travel to customer site for up to 50% of time.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in development of Model-Based Controls Development and specifications for purposes of automotive energy management, emissions management, and increased operational safety or performance
  • Experience in commissioning and calibration of vehicle systems, including control algorithms or other software systems
  • A strong understanding of vehicle electrical design and schematic layout, with focus on retrofitting conventional vehicles with advanced alternatively fueled powertrains
  • Experience with high voltage DC bus design
  • Component specification, testing, calibration, and operational validation as it applies to advanced vehicles and power solutions

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Use diagnostic tools, wiring schematics and hands on approach to diagnose and fix faults in the field
  • Test advanced automotive products such as proprietary battery management systems and automated manual transmissions
  • Work on medium and heavy-duty vehicle platforms
  • Assist field service personal with diagnosis of units using Team Viewer and when necessary travel to customer sites.
  • Visit customer sites to change control software to maximize vehicle performance or to improve existing condition when applicable.
  • Validate and report back the effectiveness of implemented changes.  Assist in releasing the validated changes
  • Assist in the development of diagnostic trouble trees for fault codes
  • Train new service personal on diagnostic software and tools
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by your manager
