Rustic Canyon invests in growth companies at all stages of development, although typically not in seed or mezzanine rounds. Investments typically range from $3-10 million, and Rustic Canyon prefers to lead a round, although this is not a requirement. The criteria used by Rustic Canyon to evaluate investments include: -
The plan must fulfill an identifiable need, providing significant economic benefits to businesses or consumers, or a greatly improved consumer experience, while not requiring dramatic shifts in behavior from the marketplace;

There must be a very large addressable market – at least $1 billion and growing;

The potential to reach $100 million in revenues in a reasonable time frame;

The company must have a strong business model and be clear on how it will make money and get to strong margins;

A solid management team with a track record, vision, and the passion to win; and

Rustic Canyon has established an alliance with Staenberg Venture Funds, a Seattle based venture capital firm, related to the formation of its most recent fund, Rustic Canyon Ventures SBIC, LP. As part of the alliance, Jon Staenberg, the managing partner of Staenberg Venture Funds, will become a principal in Rustic Canyon Ventures SBIC, LP.
